An extensive back ground in hospitality operations and marketing with a focus on new business start- ups. Hendrik successfully established new businesses over the years ranging from restaurants to function/conference venues.
Hendrik's career started with Eurest Catering in Amsterdam (largest commercial caterer in Europe) as a start-up manager for new sites before coming to Australia in 1988 on a working holiday. In Melbourne Hendrik worked in a variety of roles within the hospitality industry. Waiter, restaurant manager and general manager of multiple venues before starting Karstens Conference & Meeting Venues in October 2006 in Melbourne. Since then Hendrik has been able to substantially grow Karstens; opening Sydney in 2010, Brisbane in 2014 and Auckland in 2017. Karsten has venues in all capital cities in Australasia through its venue partnership program with venues In Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra and Wellington. Hendrik is also the president of the International Association of Conference centres, Australia, Asia Pacific, IACC is an international association with 300+ members worldwide.
